The City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture (OAC) announces a call for entries for the 4th annual ART214 juried exhibition, which will be presented during Dallas Arts Month in 2022. Visual artists who live in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Greater North Texas region are eligible to apply.

Dallas Arts Month, first launched in 2013, is a celebration of Dallas arts that is held annually in the month of April. Arts Month is designed to build awareness and appreciation for the work of Dallas artists and organizations and foster creative learning and activity throughout the city.

ABOUT THE ART214 EXHIBITION
Five OAC facilities, Bath House Cultural Center, Latino Cultural Center, Moody Performance Hall, Oak Cliff Cultural Center and South Dallas Cultural Center, are organizing this collaborative multi-venue juried exhibition that showcases the works of artists who live in Dallas and the Greater North Texas region.
ART214 gives the citizens of Dallas an opportunity to discover and enjoy the work of talented local and regional visual artists. Each of the partnering cultural center brings its own audiences, artists, communities and history. By scheduling connected dates to display a different section of the show at each center, the ART214 exhibition creates a unique opportunity for the public to visit all the centers during Dallas Arts Month, and it also promotes collaboration and cross-pollination of artists and audiences.

ELIGIBILITY
Art in all media created in the last five years by artists who currently live in the DFW and Greater North Texas region will be reviewed. To see if your county is within the boundaries of North Texas, as designated by the Texas State Data Center and Office of the State Demographer, visit
Art that has been selected for previous ART214 exhibitions will not be eligible. All concepts and subject matter are welcome. All art should be ready for installation at the time of delivery. Artists whose work requires the use of electronic equipment (DVD players, projectors, computers, etc.) must provide their own equipment.
There are no restrictions on the size of the artwork, but bear in mind that artists are responsible for the transportation of their works and their prompt removal after the show closes. If the scale or complexity of a work of art presents a difficulty, some of the centers will require installation assistance by the artists.
JURYING PROCESS
All the ART214 entries will be carefully reviewed by a panel of esteemed art professionals from the DFW area. The Jurors will be in charge of selecting the artwork that will be featured in the five participating venues. After the art has been selected, an independent Curator will be responsible for choosing the location of each work of art and for curating each section of the collective exhibition.
Although this is a joint exhibition, each participating cultural center will display a separate show featuring the chosen artwork that is assigned to each gallery by the Curator. Because artists can enter up to two entries for consideration, they will have the potential of showing their selected work in one or two different venues.
The Jurors and Curator for the 2022 ART214 exhibition are:
Gerald L. Leavell II, Community interdisciplinary artist and educator.
David McCullough, Art and technology creator and independent curator.
Raul Rodriguez, Photographer, artist, curator and educator. Founder of Deep Red Press.
Narong Tintamusik – Artist and independent curator.
Marilyn Waligore – Professor of Aesthetic Studies/Photography at the University of Texas at Dallas.
The Curator of the four ART214 shows this year will be Daisha Board, Owner of Daisha Board Gallery.
SUBMITTING ENTRIES
An entry fee is not required. The Jurors will review photographs of completed artwork and will select pieces for the exhibition. Unfinished artwork will not be reviewed.
Artists may submit up to two works of art for consideration. Multiple views of 3D artwork must be shown on one single image. Do not upload more than one file for the same piece.
Artists may contact the staff to forward supplementary images of their 3D works via e-mail, if necessary, or to request assistance to create an image that shows different views of their pieces.
Video artists may upload a still image of their work with their applications and may enter a web address where the jurors can view their full length video art.
The exhibition organizers will not accept files submitted on CDs, removable memory sticks, or by e-mail. All the artwork submitted and exhibited in the ART214 exhibition must be completely the applicant’s original idea and creation. Art that infringes somebody else’s intellectual property rights will be disqualified and removed from the exhibition.
To submit entries, visit https://dallasoac.awardsplatform.com.
Only one image can be attached to an application on our submission portal. To turn in multiple entries, the artists must fill out one separate application for each submitted work of art.
PHOTOGRAPHING YOUR ARTWORK
Please submit sharp high-resolution photographs with your application. Images that have at least 1200 pixels on the longest side are recommended.
GALLERY AGREEMENT
The decisions of the Jurors and Curator are final and indisputable.
Permission to use photographs of accepted entries for promotional and educational purposes is considered granted, unless otherwise indicated by the artist.
Submission of entries constitutes agreement to the conditions set forth in this document and in the cultural centers’ Policy for Exhibitions.
Please visit https://bathhouse.dallasculture.org/exhibitionspolicy/ to see a copy of the Policy for Exhibitions for the Bath House Cultural Center. Most of the ART214 cultural centers adhere to these policies.
SALES
Cultural Center employees are not allowed to accept payments from prospective art buyers, but they may, at their discretion, collect contact information from them and supply it to the artists. Transactions for the purchase of artwork shall be directly between the purchaser and the artist or his/her official agent.
DELIVERY, LIABILITY AND INSURANCE
Any accepted artwork that is delivered after the scheduled date of delivery will not be included in the exhibition. Transportation of the art to and from the gallery will be the responsibility of the artist. The Cultural Centers will not be responsible for damage, loss or deterioration of any work while in transit. All reasonable care will be given to each work of art when received.
Not all the cultural centers will provide insurance for the works of art. If your work is accepted, please check with the cultural center where your work will be displayed to inquire about the availability of insurance coverage.
